What is RYLA Camp (now eRYLA online for 2021)?

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is all about Rotarians working with youth in leadership development. It is an intensive training/experiential program for about 180 high school students in their pivotal junior year, who are chosen for their proven or potential leadership abilities. Students participate in an all-expense online “camp” from their homes over five days. The camp is run by RYLA Alumni and student attendance is sponsored by Rotary Clubs from throughout District 5320. Attendance is free for qualified high school Juniors. Students are joined by talented young people from communities throughout the district. RYLA provides a memorable opportunity to learn, grow, have fun, make new friends, and gain a new and improved focus.

Announcements-Come and join us and learn about Toastmasters and the partnership we have. Monday, February 22 @ 6:00 PM via Zoom. Meeting ID 978 5060 5700 Pass Code-SORCHw. The presenters will be staging a mock meeting to introduce us to Toastmasters and what they have to offer.
Saturday & Sunday, February 20 & 21, there is an opportunity to volunteer @ the Laguna Woods Village with vaccine for the residents. You must have received both of your vaccines inoculations.

Ward would like to remind everyone that the mobile vaccine site is tentative. It is intended for those who are unable to make it to the mega vaccine sites.
There is a Harvesting opportunity possibly on Saturday, February 27 in Yorba Linda.
Alice, Turgut, Ward & Glenn volunteered.
Easter Egg-Citement is scheduled for March 27 @ Placentia City Hall.
Placentia is scheduled for April 24. More information to follow.
Craig announced the PYLUSD has a mobile clinic in La Jolla & is able to travel to different schools. It might possibly be utilized for the COVID vaccine.

Trivia-Where was the 2nd Rotary Club? San Francisco! Then Oakland, Seattle, Los Angeles, Inglewood.
Happy Bucks-Alice had $10 for having her 1st vaccine @ Soka University. She took her dog to explore the hiking trails. Roy had $20 for Alexa receiving her certification as a Special Education Teacher, being employed by the NMUSD and finding her own place! Mychal is now living in a group home in Fullerton & he’s doing very well. Turgut had $20 for scholarships for receiving his vaccine and Maria had her last chemotherapy on Monday! Elizabeth had $10 for her first vaccine & her twin nieces graduating 1st & 2nd in their class from University of Virginia. Richard Ford, our speaker, had $20 for scholarships, Ron had $5 for having his taxes prepared & is actually receiving a refund!
Richard Ford shared with us about different and unique RYLA will be for us this year. To begin with, it's eRYLA this year as it will all be conducted virtually. Instead of a weekend, it will now span 5 days:Wednesday, April 21 from 6-8 PM, Thursday & Friday, April 22 & 23, from 6-10 PM, Saturday, April 24 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM and Sunday, April 25 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Each participant will receive a box with goodies, snacks and items necessary for activities. The group responsible for the program is LeaderNU, director is Bridget Markwood. We will be sending 3 participants.
